I am Astrid, a native German speaker and language trainer with over 30 years of teaching experience in universities, secondary schools and adult education. Having lived in Ireland and now the UK for many years, I bring a genuinely bilingual and cross-cultural perspective to my work — an approach that supports learners not only with language, but also with the cultural understanding that underpins effective communication.

I have taught learners at all levels and understand the realities of studying alongside professional and personal commitments. My teaching is structured, supportive and practical, with a clear focus on helping you use German confidently in real workplace situations, from emails and meetings to everyday professional exchanges.

My academic background includes an MA in English, German and Celtic Studies and a PGCE, complemented by many years of experience developing and leading German programmes in UK secondary schools. Alongside teaching, I work as an English→German translator and published travel writer, which keeps me closely engaged with language, culture and clear, purposeful communication.

If unsure, message me and I’ll guide you.

What are A1–B2 levels?

The levels A1 to B2 describe stages of language ability, ranging from beginner to upper-intermediate.
They simply show how your skills grow over time.

A2 – Early Intermediate
You can handle familiar office situations such as short emails, simple calls and everyday conversations with colleagues.
B1 – Intermediate
